wineAlthough white wine is often served with chicken, for this tomato-based Italian dish you are going to need a red wine. Here is a list of some varietals that I recommend for your romantic dinner:
Fitou Domaine des Ardoises -- 2006
A medium-bodied, round and soft wine with hints of spices, smoke and prune flavors. Light tannins and a beautiful finish make this wine from Languedoc, France a good choice for pasta and cheese pairings.
Barbolini Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro -- 1998
A sparkling red heralding from Italy. It's a dry, light wine that pairs well with tomato-based foods, which means that it's great with Parmesan chicken. It can also be sipped alone.
La Milliere Cotes du Rhone-Village Tres Vieilles Vignes -- 2004
A wine coming from the Rhone Valley, France is a perfect accompaniment with fried chicken. It's a wonderful balance of ripe black fruits, tannins and spices that linger on your palate.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Merlot -- 2002
A medium-bodied California wine that harmoniously blends flavors and aromas of plum, black cherry and blueberry, which are accented by hints of vanilla and oak. This Merlot is great with chicken.
break her heartGentlemen, there you have it -- everything you need to know in order to pull off a perfect Valentine's Day supper for the one you love. You have four great wines to choose from, an easy Italian recipe, some pasta, and garlic bread. You're on your way to a perfect evening, but don't ask her to do the dishes if you're looking to get lucky.
garlic bread
Why I volunteer all of my secrets to strangers, I do not know. But seriously, I will give you a tip on how to prepare the best garlic bread you have ever had. It's true that you can add some garlic butter to a French baguette, but this is boring and the over-dried bread often ends up being nasty.
Go out an buy a round loaf of bread that is soft, such as a sourdough. Slice several rows two-thirds of the way down (careful not to cut through the bread). Place 1/4-inch slices of garlic butter between the slices of bread.
Wrap the entire bread in aluminum foil and place it in a 350-degree oven for 15 minutes.
